In ancient times, Tao Yuan-ming resigned from office and embraced pastoral life. Nowadays in Tuen Mun Hospital, nearly 260 colleagues from 50 different departments and medical wards have joined the Soil to Table planting activity since last year, where small farms are set up in the podium garden on the 2/F of the Rehabilitation Block and the garden of the Main Block.

It is not easy to grow crops. The colleagues handled all their own tasks including watering, fertilising, pruning, weeding, and pest control. They also participated in workshops to learn the techniques of planting. They made good use of environmental resources, including kitchen waste, used coffee grounds, and rainwater, etc. to provide natural nutrients for plants.

When the harvest day came, the colleagues gathered together to hold a party and share with each other fresh fruits and vegetables. It was particularly fulfilling to be able to eat what they had sown. The next phase of the planting activity will begin in October, you are always welcome to experience the joy of planting.
